The Four Peaks Wilderness was established in 1984, and contains over 60,000 acres with a major mountain rising up in its center from the desert foothills. One of the densest black bear populations in Arizona lives in this Wilderness. Other mammals include ring-tailed cats, skunks, coyotes, deer, javelinas, and mountain lions. Keep your eyes open for rattlesnakes, scorpions, black widow spiders, centipedes, and millipedes. A large part of this Four Peaks Wilderness was burned by a human-caused fire in 1996.
